Microsoft Silicon Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. The Microsoft Silicon Engineering Team is seeking passionate, driven and intellectually curious Principal Front End (FE) Computer aided Design (CAD) Manager to join our Central Front-End Tools, Flows and Methodology CAD team. This team drives state-of-the-art converged software solutions, automation, and quality assurance checks across front-end areas such as Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), SCM, Register Transfer Level (RTL) Design, Design Verification, Validation, Emulation and Intellectual Property (IP) integration. This team supports numerous simultaneous projects within Microsoft by developing workflows and software for our design engineers so that they can deliver cutting-edge silicon solutions for Microsoft.

Responsibilities

The individual in this role will have a broad scope, leading and managing a team of software/hardware engineers who:

  • Are part of a central silicon CAD team that drives common software solutions for System on Chip (SoC) and IP designs.
  • Are leaders, providing tool, flow and methodology expertise to the silicon design community.
  • Support, develop and Integrate 1st & 3rd Party tools into the silicon engineering systems.
  • Work with stakeholders across the silicon group to collect tool requirements and implement solutions.
  • Administrate version control and bug tracking systems.
  • Develop solutions to ensure source code security guidelines are met.
  • Make the most of our on-premises and Azure computing systems.
  • Are part of the AI revolution, driving AI into all engineering solutions.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • 9+ years of related technical engineering experience
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering,

Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering

experience or internship experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering,

Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering

Experience

  • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering,

Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering

experience.

  • 8+ years of experience in silicon design or CAD tool development.
  • 2+ years of experience in people management.
  • Familiarity in the end-to-end silicon design process in most of these areas: Logic design, Design Verification, Design for Test (DFT), Validation, Emulation, Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGA) prototyping, Static Tools, Synthesis, Design Integration, Design Libraries, Gate Level Simulation, Verilog Generators, and Low Power design.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional Preferred: 

  • 14+ years technical engineering experience
  • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering,

Computer Science, or related field AND 11+ years technical engineering

Experience

  • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering,

Computer Science, or related field AND 7+ years technical engineering

Experience

  • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering,

Computer Science, or related field AND 4+ years technical engineering

experience.

  • Exceptional software writing skills: Python, Tool Command Language (TCL), Perl, C/C++, SystemC, etc.
  • Experience leading Silicon CAD / Design Automation teams.
  • Proven track record of developing Tools, Flows and Methodologies to Silicon design teams.
  • 3+ years of people management experience.
  • Experience with interfacing into datacenters to launch massive job regressions, collect and view results.
  • 10+ years of experience in silicon design or CAD tool development.
  • Experience administering complex source code security systems to meet corporate legal requirements.
  • Experience architecting complex software solutions that are secure, scalable and robust.
  • Experience with CI/CD, and integration into SCM systems. Preferably Azure DevOps and Git.
  • Experience in Agile software development methodologies.

Silicon Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
