Position Overview

The Senior Design Manager will play a critical role in shaping the vision and execution of our bond construction program by leading the design phase of various projects. This position offers an opportunity to collaborate with architects, engineers, and stakeholders to develop innovative and sustainable solutions that will enrich the learning environment for our students and enhance the campus community.

Responsibilities:Lead the design phase of bond-funded construction projects, including new buildings, renovations, and facilities upgrades.Collaborate with campus stakeholders, including faculty, staff, and administration, to understand project requirements, goals, and objectives.Manage the selection and coordination of architectural and engineering firms, ensuring alignment with project scope, budget, and schedule.Oversee the development of design concepts, drawings, and specifications, ensuring compliance with building codes, accessibility standards, and sustainability guidelines.Facilitate design reviews and presentations to campus committees, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders, soliciting feedback and incorporating input into the design process.Coordinate with construction managers, contractors, and subcontractors to integrate design plans into the overall project schedule and execution strategy.Conduct site visits and inspections to assess existing conditions, identify design challenges, and inform the development of comprehensive solutions.Monitor project budgets, schedules, and quality standards throughout the design phase, identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation strategies as needed.Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that values creativity, innovation, and excellence in design.Minimum Qualifications:

10 years of experience in design and/or design management5 years of the foregoing 10 years of experience must be with projects requiring DSA or OSHPD Certification.BA or BS in Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning, Construction Management or a closely related field.Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of DSA requirements and relevant provisions of the California Public Contract Code, as well as regulations and requirements governing DSA submissions.
  • Experience in design and design management of major K-14 or higher education projects.
  • Understanding of Sustainable Design Principles.
  • Understanding of risk management principles and the risk management process.
  • Understanding of scope definition and scope interface.
  • A current and valid Certificate of Registration as an Architect by the California Architectural Board or as a Professional Engineer by the California State Board for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.Benefits:

Salary dependent on education and experience: Salary range: $150K - $170K
