Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a seasoned Design Manager to join our Energy and Resources Team, ideally to be based in Townsville, but Cairns and Gladstone locations would also be considered. This role will work with the broader enterprise to service clients and deliver projects in the power sector across the full project lifecycle. These projects are anticipated to have a particular focus on substations and transmission infrastructure, and contribute to the continued decarbonization of the power system.

Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a seasoned Design Manager to join our Energy and Resources Team, ideally to be based in Townsville, but Cairns and Gladstone locations would also be considered. This role will work with the broader enterprise to service clients and deliver projects in the power sector across the full project lifecycle. These projects are anticipated to have a particular focus on substations and transmission infrastructure, and contribute to the continued decarbonization of the power system.
Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
- Undertaking design and preparing documentation for power projects.
- Multidisciplinary coordination of power projects.
- Supervision of others and review of their outputs.
- Leading and overseeing the work of project teams to achieve project milestones and objectives; includes allocating tasks, ensuring compliance, setting priorities, reprioritizing as required, and coordinating and supervising the daily activities of project teams.
- Contributing to the development of GHD’s knowledge and skills in power engineering including planning, design, construction, operation, maintenance and demolition.
- Effectively communicating with stakeholders, both internal and external.
- Leveraging background/contacts to developing business and contributing to winning work.
- Development of tender responses to sell GHD’s services.
- Formal qualifications in electrical engineering (BEng or equivalent acceptable to Engineers Australia).
- CPEng and RPEQ are desirable.
- 10+ Years’ experience in power projects, specifically engineering/design management with a focus on the design of high voltage substations and transmission infrastructure between 66 kV and 500 kV. This includes experience with relevant software packages (e.g. CDEGS, PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD, Bentley OpenUtilities, PLS-CAD). Construction and commissioning experience is desirable.
- Experience in liaison with utilities providers. Experience with generator performance standards and navigating a power system connection process is desirable.
- Experience in business development.
