Job description

As Graphic Designer, you will work as part of the North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) communications team, delivering the full range of graphic design services both within the Trust and throughout the communities that it serves.

You will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing the Trust’s communications and engagement strategy through the delivery of on brand, well-designed, high-quality visuals. You will create both digital and print /physical collateral which will include e-newsletters, social media posts, videos, web pages, merchandise, press releases, newsletters, campaign materials and flyers. Your work will contribute towards the direct raising of awareness and support for NBT and its objectives. Your work will need to be engaging, accessible, meet the needs of the target audience and appropriate to the subject matter.

This is a new role within the team, and an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking to develop their design experience and expertise in a high-profile organisation. The role will be busy and varied and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to a range of activities as part of our integrated communications and marketing team. You will also be supported to develop your expertise through training and ongoing support and development.

  • Consistently delivering high quality and engaging creative assets across all platforms and channels both digital and physical for both internal and external use.
  • Overall lead on the design and production of graphics for social media channels, web pages, newsletters, podcasts, adverts, conferences and events, and more.
  • Advise the Communications management team and wider Trust Senior Leadership Group on all matters relating to design, branding and graphics.
  • Producing consistently and beautifully laid out reports and publications, and their associated digital collateral.
  • Delivering engaging design that works across responsive web experiences and ensuring good UI design where necessary.
  • Designing and updating internal and external key templates and materials.
  • Working to produce engaging videos, animations and moving imagery to be used on various channels.
  • Assisting on the cut downs of video footage and editing of photo shoots.
  • Working closely with the marketing team to create email campaigns and templates the Trust.
  • Depending on the candidate the role may be primarily office or remotely based. However, in either eventuality visits to wards and other parts of the hospital will be necessary.
  • Some contact with patients will take place.
  • Travel to other Trust sites or to external venues may be necessary.
  • Management of a large and diverse workload with competing priorities and constantly bearing in mind issues of precedent which may have implications across the Trust.
  • The workload will be varied and unpredictable so initiative is required to prioritise, resolve problems, undertake analysis or investigation including following up enquiries and obtaining information from other members of staff.
  • There will be a frequent need to work to tight timescales often at short notice.
  • Working with interruptions, and short deadlines.
  • There will be direct exposure to emotional or distressing situations regarding patient stories.
  • Light or occasionally moderate physical work such as carrying equipment for workshops or to team meetings may be required.
  • The post-holder is a Display Screen Equipment user.

The post holder must be confident in using Windows based IT systems e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint as well as other applications as described within the job description.
