Responsibilities
Product Design
- Product alignment and prioritization: Influence product and business strategy, and lead large and/or complex products based on a variety of inputs including user insights and business needs. Able to break down complex problems and product needs into prioritized pieces and push them through an end-to-end design process. Works with and present to leadership to get alignment on investments along side Product Management and Engineering partners.
- Product vision and craft excellence: Has a high level of expertise in all levels of design fidelity, and understand when to use different artifacts (flow diagrams, mock ups, prototypes etc) to help communicate vision or final product designs. Experience in systems thinking, information architecture and visual skills to enable a high-quality bar across all steps of the design process and lead by example.
- Lead design in cross-team partnerships: Can lead complex conversations across products and organizations to advocate for design excellence, shared patterns and design components, leveraging work of others across the company and connecting the right partners for the right design problems.
Leadership
- Design leadership: Provides high level oversight and guidance to the team of Product Designers. Owns accountability for team and product outcomes. Ensures full understanding of the original design and vision, and links to established problem and/or goal. Mentors designers in all areas of ownership. Influences those outside of design and increases team design acumen.
- Influence: Lead conversations with Product Management and Engineering counterparts to senior leadership, identify areas of opportunity in the team processes and culture
Communication and Collaboration
- Senior leadership: Owns conversations and updates to senior leadership stakeholders. Clear, concise communicator who can adjust their communication style based on audience
- Design team: Leads collaboration of the design team, encouraging consistent critique and open space for growth. Able to help mentor and provide clarity to other designers
- Product team: Collaborates with leadership and cross-functional team members. Connects dots between teams to enable collaboration, identifying opportunities to build on the work of others and leverage previous work.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 8+ years experience working in product or service design
- OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 6+ years experience working in product or service design
- OR equivalent experience (e.g., experience using design thinking to solve problems).
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 12+ years experience working in product or service design
- Experience designing AI or ML products
- Experience working across teams/orgs
- Experience with understanding of graphic design sensibilities
- Experience in AI systems design or other ambiguous large scale/broad
- Experience working within and defining design systems and libraries
Product Design IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
