Summary

The Mold Design department designs tire molds based on specifications provided by the tire development engineers and according to company standards. The primary function of CAD Engineering Manager is the creation of technical drawing using CAD software to which tire molds will be manufactured. The group also coordinates the purchase of molds as needed. To carry out these functions the group coordinates with product planning, tire development, manufacturing plants, and mold manufacturers. The manager of CAD Engineering oversees a team of drafters and designers, acts as the primary conduit for communication with all related departments and performs mold procurement activities. Additionally, the manager is responsible for process improvement, updating procedures, ensuring compatibility with facilities other company facilities, leading systems review and projects to transition to new systems as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs typical management duties including resource management, hiring, coaching, development, performance planning etc
  • Prioritizes and assigns work based on input from product planning, tire development, and plants
  • Acts as primary contact for manufacturing plants for mold related support such as mold modifications and ordering additional molds
  • Acts as primary contact for mold manufacturers for procurement activities, process discussions, technical inquiries
  • Ensures training is available for new hires and temp
  • Ensures standards are known, documented, followed.
  • Defines and maintains quality metrics with the goal of minimizing mold errors and reworking drawings.
  • Plans and coordinates continuous improvement
  • Coordinates with facilities in Japan and Thailand to implement best practices and ensure compatibility
  • Recommends new software solutions to improve efficiency and meet customer requirements
  • Leads projects to close gaps regarding efficiency, customer requirements, internal compatibility.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of tire molds and tire manufacturing preferred
  • Detail oriented, self-motivated, organized.
  • Ability to work well with counterparts, communicate project status and needs, interpret priorities
  • CAD software experience preferably in CATIA, AutoCAD and Inventor
  • Parametric design and programming

Education And Experience

  • BS degree in engineering
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in a tire development, mold design, or tire manufacturing engineering activities is desired
  • Management experience preferred
