What you'll be doing...

Customer Experience and Public Affairs provides positive and meaningful experiences for our customers across the province through targeted marketing, communications, and digital activities. Our core experience includes online platform management, marketing planning, graphic design, public relations, media relations, and other program planning.

Reporting to the Manager, Digital Experience, the Web Designer is responsible for creating exceptional digital experiences and delivering high-quality products. This position will play a critical role in the conceptualization, design, and delivery of web-based projects. Their work will not just help ensure that BC Transit’s digital properties are maximizing their ability to support communities, but will also make a direct impact on how our BC Transit riders interact with our services and receive information to help them get to their destination.

What you'll bring to the table...

We value lifelong learners and have found that a mix of any of the following credentials and experience have set people up for success in this role in the past:

  • Portfolio showcasing both web design and graphic design work.
  • Demonstrated experience creating pixel-perfect designs.
  • Knowledgeable of UX/UI principles and front-end frameworks.
  • WordPress CMS and Microsoft SharePoint (including custom WordPress theme development).
  • Knowledgeable of web development technologies/libraries such as HTML5, CSS3, DOM, JavaScript, JQuery, Bootstrap, AJAX, JSON, NodeJS, ReactJS.
  • Familiarity with versioning tools such as Git.
  • Ability to build cross-browser compatible applications using HTML5 and CSS3, SASS.
  • Experience implementing SEO best-practices (on-page, off-page, content optimizations).
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics 4 to provide web analytics to partners.
  • A strong understanding of how the architecture and structure of web applications can impact its scalability, maintainability, and security.
  • Adobe CC Suite including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
  • Proficiency in the visual hierarchy of key design principles, i.e., size, spacing, color, contrast, alignment, repetition, brightness, etc.
  • Ability to take direction and produce concepts which meet specific requirements and adhere to corporate graphic standards.
  • Understanding of optimized formats for digital deployment.
  • Demonstrates an intermediate level of proficiency with typography and its appropriate usage.
  • Familiarity with web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG).

What next steps could look like...

  • Interviews will be conducted March 5th and 6th.
  • An eligibility list for future full time regular and temporary full time vacancies may be established
