We are seeking a multi-skilled Product Designer 2 with a mastery of visual design, experience design, interface construction, branding, and storytelling. We’re looking for a designer who’s driven by empathy for customers, and the desire to carry ideas from rough ideas to launch. The right candidate works independently and is a passionate collaborator with other design teams, engineering teams and marketing groups.  

Finally, this designer defaults to a making/building mindset – when in doubt we build something and test it. Embracing quick prototyping and testing is central to this role.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with product owners and development team members to shepherd end-to-end experiences from concept to ship for products. 
  • Begins to define needs of product designs based on multiple factors such as user insights and business needs. 
  • Supports team in developing a synthesis of user insights and compares with data to identify larger issues that may not be apparent for user desires.  
  • Prototypes for new products under the guidance of senior team members.  
  • Prepares estimated production timelines. 
  • Collaborates with Engineering to aid in successful design implementation and performs QAs to help them ensure pixel perfect or detailed designs for each iteration. 
  • Contributes to visual designs from concept to delivery under the guidance of senior team members. Facilitates the creative visual design process by producing the visual language for a product.  
  • Creates visual design documents including mood boards, storyboards, creative briefs, 3D models, product renderings/visualizations, color and materials design, motion studies, iconography, illustrations, layouts, and redlines for an assigned product, tool, or service. 
  • Creates wireframes, journey maps, user jobs and scenarios, task flows, and personas in support of interaction designs for software-based experiences under the direction of a senior team member. 
  • Uses a prescribed design system (e.g., content templates, icons, form design, UI controls, navigation models, design trends).  
  • Proactively communicates with peers and managers in their studio team.  
  • Helps organize communication with cross-disciplinary teams inside and across stages of design and development.   
  • Recognizes and communicates the user needs to team members and recommends ideas to create a compelling narrative for the product. Explores new and interesting ways of telling stories. 
  • Facilitates fundamental tasks on projects with creative team members, program managers, and developers (e.g., the triad/quad) to define and iterate new and existing product features.  
  • Participates in one or more studies at a time and collaborates, creates, and helps the team deliver product design results. Influences team members in support of product design impact. 

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service design
    • OR equivalent experience (e.g., experience using design thinking to solve problems).
Other Requirements

Product Design IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
