Support Staff Full-time Replacement Position

(First consideration for Support Staff and Academic positions will be given to internal applicants in accordance with the respective Collective Agreements)

The Digital Graphic Designer delivers innovative, high-quality custom assets for instructional materials, promotional activities, and visual communications. As a brand ambassador, the incumbent will ensure appropriate application of branding and image standards across all channels and mediums. The role provides design expertise and collaborates with stakeholders and cross-functional teams translating objectives into compelling and creative solutions.

The successful candidate will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. It is anticipated that this position will meet the needs of the department through a hybrid work arrangement with one day on-site, and four days remote.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops original graphical imagery that maximizes audience engagement and supports various college initiatives including online course offerings, promotion, and communications
  • Presents concepts to stakeholders, explains design rationale, seeks creative feedback, and revises concepts toward a final design that meets stakeholder objectives
  • Converts complex technical information into understandable and informative graphics that enhance comprehension and recall
  • Creates promotional materials, including but not limited to email campaign templates, digital ad designs, presentations, interactive PDFs, social media images
  • Produces, edits, and approves photographs for instructional materials, social media posts and communications
  • Supports animation and video production post-production activities such as designing titles and graphic elements
  • Creates a unified brand identity across all visual materials, documents design standards, maintains a brand guide, and advocates for brand compliance
  • Reviews creative asset implementation for accuracy and consistency and ensures implementation matches visual design
  • Reviews work study and/or co-op student’s designs and provides constructive feedback on design principles and graphic design techniques
  • Ensures all new and updated digital assets meet copyright and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) compliance
  • Maintains digital asset library (e.g., storing graphics and other multimedia assets) with versioning control and established naming conventions
  • Maintains expertise in the latest technology, tools and techniques in visual design and digital media through research, reading publications, participating in workshops, networking, and consulting with other colleges and universities, external representatives, vendors, etc.
  • Liaises with marketing, web services, and other departments to create designs based on the College’s web standards with an understanding of responsive, flexible web design (i.e., mockups for desktop, mobile, and tablet views)
  • Creates user interface (UI) mock-ups that clearly illustrate how web layouts and interactive learning objects appear and function (i.e., style guides, user flows, wireframes, static mock-ups, and interactive prototypes)
  • Establishes the design and visual style for new templates that are used in the Enterprise CMS consistent with branding, and design standards
  • Gathers requirements through a creative brief, scopes work effort and contributes to the project schedule to ensure on-time delivery

Qualifications

  • Three-year Diploma/Degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Animation, Multimedia Design, or a related field of study is required
  • Minimum five years of demonstrated experience and advanced knowledge of producing graphics using Adobe Creative Cloud (e.g., Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and After Effects); demonstrated experience using prototyping tools (e.g., Invision, Adobe XD, etc.)
  • Portfolio demonstrates strong creativity and conceptual skills, with an original design sensibility
  • Demonstrated understanding of social media, marketing, and communications
  • Excellent project management, presentation, and relationship-building skills
  • Working knowledge of CSS and HTML5 an asset
  • Must have a positive can-do attitude, be proactive, possess strong interpersonal communication skills, be able to take initiative, as well as manage time within a fast-paced environment where deadlines and challenges constantly evolve
